Steve Spagnuolo confirmed there had been no progress with Bradford's contract.
We reported this morning that talks between Sam Bradford and the St. Louis Rams had slowed. This afternoon, Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo confirmed a lack of progress.
When asked if there was an update on the contract talks Spagnuolo responded, “not really.”
“I talked with (Executive Vice President of Football Operations/ Chief Operating Officer) Kevin (Demoff) real quick and no real change,” he added. “You know, we’re optimistic but you’ve just got to let it play out.”
There are a slew of first-round picks anxiously waiting for it play out, actually.
Reporters followed up by asking whether they were closer on a deal today than yesterday.
“I’ll be honest with you, I really can’t say that,” he said. “I’m going to just say it’s the same. I didn’t get that in depth with Kevin. All I ask Kevin is, ‘Is it done?’ and then I go from there.”
The mood lightened a bit when Spagnoulo was asked whether Bradford missed anything important during practice.
The coach laughed and said, “Like every other head coach, you want your players around as soon as possible.”
But is he upset that the first overall pick in the draft isn’t in camp yet?
“I’m not going there,” Spagnuolo said followed by another chuckle.
