The St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys are close to completing a trade for a pair of former first-round draft picks.

In the deal, the Rams would send tackle Alex Barron to the Cowboys in exchange for linebacker Bobby Carpenter.

Since word of the trade first surfaced Thursday afternoon, the intensity of the trade talks escalated to the point that Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote that the deal will happen.

Barron started 74 of his 76 career games, including all 16 last season.

Carpenter, meanwhile, started just two games last season en route to registering 46 tackles and two sacks.

Before anything can happen, however, Barron must sign his restricted free agent tender.

Both men will also have to pass physicals before packing up and moving on.
