The Oakland Raiders have a new fullback.
Rookie defensive end Lamarr Houston has been taking snaps at fullback in goal line situations.
The 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive lineman was a stand out running back in high school and will be returning to his roots this season.
“We might do some of that around the goal line in short yardage situations, things like that,” Raiders head coach Tom Cable told the media on Friday, per Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune. “We did some of that in minicamp, OTA, right from the get-go with him. He’s had some history there.”
Just a few days ago the team tried out Alex Daniels in the same role, but decided he is best fit to remain exclusively on defense.
Also a few days ago Houston got into the first fight of the year at Raiders training camp. He and Brandon Myers got into it briefly before being broken up.
