Raiders’ Bush Could Miss Six Weeks Following Surgery, Return for 49ers

Michael Bush

Michael Bush could be out until mid-October following thumb surgery

The Oakland Raiders backfield will feature heavy doses of Darren McFadden early in the season while Michael Bush is out recovering from thumb surgery.

Bush suffered a Bennett’s Fracture in last weekends game against the San Francisco 49ers and could be out four to six weeks.

Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune reached out to a New York-based orthopedic surgeon who stated that Bush could be held out longer than a lineman or linebacker who could return sooner from the surgery with a cast or “club” over the thumb.

However, because Bush is a running back and needs to be able to grip the ball, the recovery time could render him unable to play until at least Oct. 3 against the Houston Texans.

If a full six weeks are required to recover, he could return Oct. 17 against the 49ers.
