QB Trent Edwards, WR Lee Evans, and first-time captain DE Marcus Stroud are amongst the six team captains the Bills announced for their 2010 season on Wednesday.

Edwards and Evans will represent the offense, Stroud and LB Chris Kelsay will captain the defense, and P Brian Moorman and S George Wilson will lead special teams. Moorman and Evans, entering their fifth-year as captains, are the longest tenured, while Stroud is the sole first-year captain selected.

Edwards enjoyed an excellent preseason despite entering the season in an open competition for the starting job. He completed 28 of 41 passes for 370 yards with 2 TDs and an INT in 4 games. Evans displayed a strong connection with Edwards throughout the early season as well, pulling in 4 receptions for 136 yards, including a 70-yard TD grab on Aug. 19 and a 50-yard catch in last week’s finale.

The NFL introduced the team captain initiative in 2007 with the purpose of supporting and recognizing the importance of team leadership. Each team selects six representatives that will serve as role models for the team and fans, as well as communicating with officials on the field during games.
