New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker is “doing very well” in his recovery from ACL surgery three weeks ago, but it’s doubtful he will be ready for the start of the 2010 season.
Having Welker back in time for NFL Kickoff 2010 is an “unrealistic proposition” according to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald.
With that in mind, the Patriots will be taking a hard look at the wide receivers at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
The team also signed veteran wide receiver David Patten on Wednesday to help fill the void.
After undergoing similar surgery, Tom Brady faced a number of setbacks including a staph infection. Thus far Welker has been able to avoid the same fate.
