CB Leigh Bodden (torn rotator cuff) will miss the 2010 season after being placed on the Patriots injured reserve list Tuesday.

Patriots will be without their leading CB Leigh Bodden for all of the 2010 season after the team put him on their injured reserve list Tuesday.

According to ESPNBoston.com, Bodden was set to be the team’s top cornerback when he injured his shoulder in practice over the weekend. When he went in for evaluation, doctors discovered the 28-year-old had a torn rotator cuff.

“I’m bummed,” Bodden said via his Twitter account. “I’ve been hitting bumps my whole career and always seem to get past [them]. This will be no different.”

Bodden was coming off a stellar 2009 season, leading the team with 5 INTs and adding 55 tackles and a forced fumble. His injury now leaves an already youthful, but inexperienced defense with one of the youngest secondaries in the NFL. Darius Butler, a 2nd round pick out of Connecticut in 2009, and rookie Devin McCourty, the 27th overall pick this year, are the team’s two projected starters.

“It’s a contact sport; things happen,” safety S Brandon Meriweather said. “You just have to put the trust in the people that are out there, and you have to move on.”

Surprisingly, one of the players most disappointed by Bodden’s injury wasn’t even on the Patriots. Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco, who was set to battle against Bodden in the teams’ Week 1 matchup, sent his condolences to the 8-year vet via Twitter on Tuesday.

“You give me hell when we play,” Ochocinco said to Bodden.”I was looking forward to next week’s game.”

New England also placed DE Darryl Richard (foot), S Bret Lockett (chest), S Josh Barrett (shoulder) on their injured reserve list.
