It’s looking more and more unlikely that Julius Peppers will return to the Carolina Panthers next season.
The Panthers have not reached out to the stud defensive end or his agent about a contract extension according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. They do not plan on placing the franchise tag on him either.
Per a league source to Schefter, “Their owner [Jerry Richardson] has told people they’re not planning to keep him.”
If the Panthers do a 180 and decide to keep Peppers it would cost them $21.8 million.
More than likely he’s out the door. So where does he wind up?
Three teams are rumored to be in the running for his services already. The Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens.
However, it might be a long shot for Peppers to wind up in Baltimore because of the league’s final eight plan.
The Patriots could make the strongest push to get Peppers as Vince Wilfork is far from certain to be back on the Patriots’ defensive line next season.
