Oakland Raiders Try Defensive End at Fullback

Alex Daniels

Defensive end Alex Daniels got a chance to play fullback Wednesday.

In a move that conjures up memories of William Perry carrying the ball for the Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders defensive end Alex Daniels got a chance to work as a fullback during Wednesday’s practice.

Although he was used primarily in a blocking capacity, the 6-foot-4, 260-pounder did catch a pass during his time in the backfield according to Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Head coach Tom Cable called the move an “experiment” noting that Daniels has some running back in his background.

The undrafted rookie out of Cincinnati is just happy to get the chance to play, not matter what position it is.

“Whatever I can do to help the team win, that’s what I’m going to do,” Daniels said after practice. “If I gotta play fullback, if I gotta play center, if I gotta go get the water, then I’m going to do it. Commitment to excellence, that’s what I want to do.”
