San Diego Chargers Head Coach Norv Turner may be breathing a sigh of relief in the coming days. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Turner should soon receive an extension to continue his role as Head Coach of the Chargers.
Although Turner has lead his Chargers to 3 straight playoff appearances, Chargers ownership is looking for more than merely an appearance in the playoffs. Just ask Marty Schottenheimer, who was dismissed after leading the Chargers to a 14-2 record and a Divisional Playoff loss in 2006.
The Chargers finished the ’09 season with a 13-3 record and a loss to the New York Jets in the Divisional round.
Long known to be an excellent groomer of quarterbacks, Turner has done a fantastic job teaching Phillip Rivers what it takes to be a successful NFL quarterback. Look for the San Diego Chargers to once again contend in 2010.
