No Blackout for Chargers vs Historically Dominant Redskins

The San Diego Chargers narrowly avoided having a blackout for their regular season finale against the Washington Redskins.

The team was able to sell the remaining non-premium tickets necessary to avoid being yanked from local TV.

Despite the fact that the team will likely rest the quarterback Philip Rivers and other starters for the majority of the game, the fact that ticket sales came down to the wire is puzzling.

The team locked up the No. 2 seed in the AFC for the playoffs with a 12-3 record thus far.

Don’t rule the Redskins out of Sunday’s game, either. Washington is 6-2 against the Chargers all-time.

The two teams last met on November 27, 2005 when San Diego won 23-17 in overtime.

Team owner Dean Spanos released the following statement expressing his gratitude to Charger fans on Friday:

Thank you Charger fans for your support throughout the 2009 season. With your support we were able to sell enough tickets that allowed every regular season game to be broadcast in San Diego. In these tough economic times it allowed all Charger fans to watch our games in record numbers. We look forward to an exciting January and your continued support in 2010.
