In a surprise move, the New Orleans Saints signed running back Deuce McAllister on Friday.
McAllister has been out of football for over a year at this point. The team released him this past off-season after he struggled with knee injuries.
Dave Cohen of WWL confirmed that he will be on the team’s active roster this weekend for their NFL playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals.
The Saints placed defensive tackle Rodney Leisle on injured reserve to make room for the running back on the roster.
Given the injury to Pierre Thomas, McAllister could see some playing time.
“I’m speechless,” McAllister said in a team-issued press release on Friday. “I don’t know that there are words to describe this feeling. I do know that we have some unfinished business that we started a few years ago and we want to finish the deal.”
Although he still has a pending four-game suspension, McAllister will be able to play due to the ongoing litigation between Pat and Kevin Williams with the league.
The league has suspended all suspension pending an outcome in that case.
UPDATE: McAllister will be inactive for the game. He will serve as a team captain, but not see action. (more)
