Peyton Manning has won his record 4th NFL MVP. Manning received 39 1/2 votes for the award. He led the Colts to a 14-0 record before being rested the last two weeks of the season.
Manning’s stats for 2009 4,500 passing yards, 33 TDs and 16 INTs. His passer rating was 99.9.
His past MVP awards were in 2003,2004, and 2008. He passes Brett Favre with this award.
Manning joined the truly elite of team sports: Wayne Gretzky (9),Barry Bonds (7) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (6), the leaders for MVP awards in their sports.
“I’m not comfortable having my name on that list or drawing comparisons to those guys,” Manning said Saturday. “I think all of those people would probably echo the sentiments that I had before about being very humbled, especially in football which I think is the ultimate team game.”
Drew Brees of New Orleans was second with 7 1/2 votes, followed by Phillip Rivers of San Diego with 2 votes and Brett Favre of Minnesota with 1 vote.
