The Washington Redskins continue to make significant changes to their roster. The team released a slew of players on Thursday afternoon, many of which had been key players over the past few years.

In addition to the releases of Randy Thomas, Fred Smoot, Antwaan Randle El and Rock Cartwright the team has also parted ways with running back Ladell Betts and defensive lineman Cornelius Griffin.

As the team begins the full on rebuilding process, it is interesting to note that all of the players released by the team are over 30 years of age.

Betts has been with the team since 2002 when he was drafted in the second-round out of Iowa. Like fellow released running back Rock Cartwright, Betts is also a fan favorite and filled in while Clinton Portis was injured.

Griffin, 33, is widely believed to be one of the elite defensive lineman on the squad. He has been with the team since 2004.

It has been widely been speculated that the Redskins will make a strong push to sign Julius Peppers at midnight as soon as the free agency period begins.
