Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner retired from the NFL after 12 seasons on Friday. He opted not to play the final year of his two-year $23 million contract despite clearly still having the skills to get it done.
“It’s been an amazing ride,” Warner said at Friday’s press conference. “I don’t think I could have dreamt it would have played out like it has, but I’ve been humbled every day that I woke up the last 12 years and amazed that God would choose to use me to do what he’s given me the opportunity to do.”
His legacy is a special one. The next to last game of his career was the thrilling 51-45 victory over the Green Bay Packers where he put together one of the greatest games in post-season history.
He will certainly receive strong consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame when the time comes.
Ever the devout Christian, Warner now plans to spend time with his family and do some peaching according to an Associate Press report.
The Super Bowl winner is also considering following fellow concussed quarterback Troy Aikman into broadcasting.
