Kubiak Staying with Texans, Shanahan Cleared for Redskins

Gary Kubiak will be back as the head coach of the Houston Texans next season.

There had been reports that Kubiak would coach the team for the final time on Sunday, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that will not be the case.

Mike Shanahan was reportedly interested in the job if it became available, which could have thrown a wrinkle into the Washington Redskins plans to make him their next head coach.

However, this obstacle, like so many others, has been cleared for Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to sign his guy.

Now the Redskins must re-interview Greg Blache and Jerry Gray for the head coaching position to satisfy the NFL’s Rooney Rule after they fire Jim Zorn.

Just in the off chance the former Broncos coach does not land in Washington, team G.M. Bruce Allen is working on a contingency plan and has been calling other coaches according to Jay Glazer.
