Chris Johnson is prepared to sit out training camp if a new deal isn't reached.
Chris Johnson is preparing to play hardball with the Tennessee Titans in hopes of getting paid.
The elite running back is not willing to play under the terms of his current contract, which has three years remaining on it.
“I can’t play for $550,000,” Johnson said, per Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. “The money that I am playing for, I am getting paid less than the starting 11 (on offense) and I’m one of the lowest paid starting running backs in the league.”
The 24-year-old said he will sit out of training camp while awaiting a new deal. The problem is that he may be waiting a long time.
Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt recently stated he expect Johnson to “honor his contract.”
“Right now, I am not sure what is going to happen,” said Johnson. “I just hope they pay me, but I don’t know.”
