Rex Ryan
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has taken a drastic step in an effort to fight the battle of the bulge.
The hefty 47-year-old head coach had lap-band surgery at NYU Medical Center on Saturday according to Rich Cimini of the NY Daily News.
When the 2009 season kicked off Ryan tipped the scales at 340 pounds.
He was released from the hospital the same day and is currently at home recovering.
Ryan also had a hernia repaired while under the knife.
The team previously announced that he was in the hospital for a “scheduled procedure” without releasing further details.
Speaking from a personal perspective, it is commendable that Ryan has taken this step.
I had gastric bypass surgery six months ago and it was the best decision I ever made. I wish Ryan the same success.
