Injury to Dolphins LB Channing Crowder Remains a Mystery

The injury that has kept Dolphins LB Channing Crowder out of the team's last two preseason game is still a mystery.

The Dolphins still aren’t exactly sure what is ailing LB Channing Crowder, as the 26-year-old will get a second opinion on a lower body injury later this afternoon.

Crowder has missed Miami’s last two preseason games with what was believed to be a hip flexor, but recent reports from the Miami Herald say the problem may actually be associated with his lower abdomen. Team officials planned to elaborate on the nature of Crowder’s injury on Monday, but kept mum due to their own uncertainty about his condition.

Despite the odd circumstances, coach Tony Sparano said the seriousness of Crowder’s injury hasn’t gotten to the point that he would rule the former Gator out of Miami’s Sept. 12 opener in Buffalo. “Every day that a guy like Channing isn’t out here, I’m concerned,” Sparano said. “But I’m not really that concerned right at this second.”

In case that Crowder isn’t fit in time for the regular season, the Dolphins have groomed OLBs Charlie Anderson and Tim Dobbins to step into the MLB role.

Miami drafted Crowder in the 3rd round of the 2005 draft. He had a breakout season in 2008, recording 113 tackles in 15 games, but followed it up with a disappointing campagin last season, finishing with 52 tackles in 13 games.
