The Houston Texans signed head coach Gary Kubiak to a new three-year contract that runs through 2012 on Tuesday.

Kubiak and the team tore up his existing contract to put together a new one that runs concurrent with the contracts of his assistant coaches.

“I want to be on the same path as them,” Kubiak said, per John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. “I think that’s important. It shows we’re all in this together.”

Kubiak’s new coaches have been signing three-year contracts as well that will end in 2012. Meanwhile, the returning staff signed two-year extensions that all end at the same time.

“Bob (McNair) has always been very good to me,” the Texans coach said. “I respect him a great deal. I’m glad he’s got the confidence in me to finish what we started when we came here. We’ve got a great opportunity to have something real special.”
