Chicago Bears defensive end Gaines Adams died Sunday morning at the age of 26.
Gaines passed away after being taken to the emergency room at Greenwood, S.C. hospital.
Although unconfirmed, there is some speculation that the cause of death is a heart attack. An autopsy is expected to be performed.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took Adams with the fourth overall pick in the 2007 draft out of Clemson.
He was traded to the Chicago Bears last October for a second-round draft pick in the 2010 draft.
Greenwood County Coroner James T. Coursey said Adams appeared to be in perfect health.
