Bills RB Fred Jackson will likely be ready for the start of the regular season, but will see "limited" playtime in the early goings.
Bills coach Chan Gailey said on Wednesday that RB Fred Jackson will most likely be available for the team’s regular season opener, but will be held to limited action as a precaution in the early part of the season.
“I think he’ll still be limited early in the year,” Gailey said, according to BuffaloBills.com. ”But he’s going to be able to be on the field for us and give us some plays.”
Jackson returned to practice for the first time on Tuesday since breaking his hand in the Bills’ preseason opener Aug. 13. He told reporters that his hand is still in some pain, but that there is a “100% chance” he’ll play vs. Miami on Sept. 12.
With rookie RB C.J. Spiller running spectacularly in the preseason ((122 yards and 3 TDs in 3 games) and RB Marshawn Lynch almost back to full-strength from a high ankle sprain, it seems that Gailey sees no point in rushing back Jackson with two high-level rushers set to go.
