Quarterback Josh Freeman had the soft cast removed from his broken right thumb yesterday and is expected to ready in time for Tampa’s season opener against Cleveland on September 12.
Freeman broke the tip of the thumb in a preaseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs during the second week of the preseason, but feels like his brief rehab for the injury is going according to plan.
“Definitely, I’m making progress,” Freeman said following Monday’s practice. “I’m in just a splint now and everything’s right on schedule. We’ve got it immobilized and it’s definitely healing. I’d like to get back on the practice field starting with our preparations for the Cleveland game next Monday.”
Coach Raheem Morris never had any doubts that Freeman would be ready for Cleveland and has been pleased with his progress.
“I trust him enough to let him go out on the field this week,” Morris said. “Everything’s going the right way for him … everything’s on schedule. I’m not supposed to say this, but Josh was out there gripping a ball the other day.”
