Warren Sapp Mug Shot
Former NFL star Warren Sapp was arrested on charges of misdemeanor domestic battery on Saturday in Miami.
The alleged incident occurred early Saturday morning at the Shore Club hotel where the unidentified woman suffered a swollen knee and bruises to her neck according to the arrest affidavit.
The Associated Press is reporting that the woman told detectives that she and her friends were partying with Sapp and asked him for his room key after she became tired.
A few hours later she claims Sapp woke her up and an argument ensued where the former NFL standout choked her and pushed her down on a couch. She then alleges that Sapp grabbed her by the shirt and neck and threw her down once again.
Sapp’s version of events were a little different, although he did concede that he gave the woman his room key. He told detectives that he woke the woman up and asked her to leave, but that she fell on her leg when he tried to help her off the coach.
The woman reported the incident to police around noon on Saturday.
The NFL Network decided to pull Sapp from their Super Bowl coverage on Sunday in light of the allegations.
“We have been made aware of the arrest of Warren Sapp by the Miami Beach Police Department,” a statement by the network said. “In light of these circumstances, Warren Sapp will not appear on NFL Network while we review the matter.”
It’s been a bad week to for ex-players turned NFL Network announcers. Michael Irvin was sued on Thursday by an unidentified woman who claims he raped her in 2007. He is steadfast in his denial of the charges.
Irvin, meanwhile, will continue to appear on the network as no criminal charges have been filed against him.

Good Grief do these guys ever stop the nonsense? Irvin with another long list of previous “steadfast claiming his innocence”—sure Michael, sure…just like when the cops found crack in your glove box, which you convientely said “oh yeah, that was my cuz’s who I dropped off at rehab”…give us and the country a break—you’re a drug addict and abuser of women—period…you just happen to have been able to run fast…what a waste of humanity you turned out to be. And Sapp? Not surprised–another pampered athlete who thinks he can treat others, in particular, women, any way he so chooses. If ESPN continues to feature sexists and abusers like this on their broadcasts, well, guess hiring Steve Phillips is right in line with what they’re truly all about over there.
