Man, is it just me or does life seem just a little less interesting when the fantasy football season is over. I mean, I got a lot going on in my life. I’ve got a great girl, a job that keeps me busy and great friends and family that keep things interesting for me. But that darn fantasy football season was fun. Nothing keeps me more in check than fantasy football. Seriously, when am I not on my coach at 1PM on Sunday with my laptop open and my TV tuned to an NFL game? It’s what I do. I love that sh*t.
So, in order to give me my fix and to keep things interesting for my readers, each week I’m going to provide a few thoughts on what I think 2010, and fantasy football in general, has in store for us. Here we go people…
*It seems like every year wide receivers and quarterbacks become bigger point producers than running backs. We are in the age of the RB timeshare and it’s tough to find those stud RBs. However, keep in mind that if you do land a full-time RB (Chris Johnson, AP, S-Jax, MoJo, etc.) you have a distinct advantage in your league.
*Is it a good thing to match your QB with his best WR on your fantasy squad? I hear a lot of arguments about this but I’ll have to side with an astounding YES. Here’s why…I had Tony Romo and Terrell Owens in 2007 and 2008 and won my league’s regular season championship both years. Because of that, I drafted Roy Williams VERY early in 2009. Bad move, right? Well actually, no. When Williams went down with an injury after week 4, I was the first to jump at Miles Austin and actually started him in his week 5 breakout 10/250/2 game. It was all gravy from then on. I won the leagues regular season championship for an unprecedented 3rd straight time. That league just happens to be a keeper league (keep 2 and a rookie) and I’m keeping Romo and Austin, along with Kenny Britt. Yes, I know you play to win the championship but we get paid out for the regular season championship. So I ain’t complaining!
*Are quarterbacks becoming the most valuable position in fantasy? Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers carried their fantasy teams to countless championships last season. They are all in the primes of their careers and don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. However, every year another QB steps up to join this elite group. Who will it be in ’10? Romo is very close to the upper echelon. Brady could easily come back to join this group. What about Matthew Stafford? Dude is talented and has arguably the best WR in the NFL to throw to. It will be interesting to see.
Alright, there are a few thoughts for ya. Feel free to post your thoughts below. Would love to hear what you think.
