Atlanta Falcons tight end, Tony Gonzalez told AtlantaFalcons.com on Wednesday that he will continue to play football in 2010.
“I’ll be around for sure next season,” said Gonzalez.
“You don’t ever want to make a decision right after the season is over. Now that I’ve had a chance to get away from the game a little bit and talk to my family, I’m definitely going to be around for next year. I’m excited about the direction this team is going in. We’ve got a really good football team and I really do believe this could be the best football team I’ve ever played on coming up next year.”
The sure-fire Hall of Famer finished his 13th season in the NFL in 2009. He holds the all-time NFL records for:
- Receptions in a single season for a tight end (102, 2004 season)
- Career receiving yards for a tight end (11,760 as of December 21, 2009)
- Career receptions for a tight end (994 as of December 21, 2009)
- Career receiving touchdowns for a tight end (82 as of December 21, 2009)
- Most seasons with 1,000+ receiving yards by a tight end (4)
Quarterback Matt Ryan and the Falcons are sure to welcome him back in 2010 as they certainly did not reach their 2009 expecations.
