Chris Redman and the Atlanta Falcons came to terms on a two-year $5 million deal late Thursday night according to an ESPN report.

The backup quarterback becomes the first player to sign in the open-market era in the NFL… sort of.

The team did not want to let Redman become an unrestricted free agent and hustled to get the deal done before the free agency period began at midnight.

Redman filled in adequately when starting quarterback Matt Ryan was injured last season.

John Parker Wilson is expected to remain the third-string quarterback next season.
