Failed Fullback Experiment: Raiders Move Daniels Back to Defense

Alex Daniels is back to playing the defensive line after two-week stay at fullback

Alex Daniels’ hopes of making the 53-man Oakland Raiders roster took a big hit Tuesday when head coach Tom Cable moved him back to the defensive line.

The rookie had been switched to fullback earlier this month, but that experiment has drawn to a close.

“I just didn’t feel like we made the improvement as quickly as I’d hoped,” Cable said, per Jerry McDonald at the Oakland Tribune. “He was brought in here, started out on defense to be a pass rusher, and obviously, it’s good to get a set of legs back over there. It just didn’t feel like to me it was working.”

Daniels also returned to wearing No. 71 on his jersey, giving up the No. 39 he sported while in the backfield.

The Raiders could place the versatile player on their practice squad.
