New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning suffered a bloody gash on the left side of his head in the second quarter of Monday’s preseason game against the New York Jets.
Manning first collided with his own running back Brandon Jacobs on what appeared to be a botched play, which allowed Jets defensive lineman Calvin Pace to strike him from the blindside — popping off his helmet in the process — and sent him flying unprotected into the facemask of safety Jim Leonhard.
Manning immediately called for the training staff who applied pressure to the the gushing wound. On the ESPN broadcast blood was literally seen pouring from the quarterback’s head.
He was able to get up under his own power and walk to the locker room for further treatment.
