Eagles Release DE Darren Howard After Four Seasons

Darren Howard

The Philadelphia Eagles released defensive end Darren Howard on Thursday.

The 33-year-old veteran should still have plenty in his tank after recording 6.5 sacks and 24 tackles in 2009. He led the team in sacks in 2008 when he got the quarterback 10 times.

Still, some believe his most successful season in Philadelphia came in 2006—his first season there— when he started all 16 games, had 35 tackles and five sacks.

Before joining the Eagles he spent six seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

The team recently traded linebacker/defensive end Chris Clemons and a fourth-round draft pick to the Seahawks for defensive end Darryl Tapp.

News of the release was first reported by PFT’s Gregg Rosenthal.
