Philadelphia Eagles assistant coach Brian Stewart decided to leave the NFL to become the new defensive coordinator at the University of Houston on Monday.

“We thank Brian for the job he did this past year in Philadelphia,” Eagles head coach Andy Reid said. “He’s a good football coach and he’s well deserving of this new opportunity. He will bring a great deal of coaching experience to the already strong football staff at the University of Houston. We wish Brian and his family all the best.”

Stewart only spent one season in Philadelphia. He spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons as the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator.

He has hopes of becoming a head coach someday.
