Green Bay Packers (8-4) Down: James Starks
The last time some unknown power back emerged from the depths of the fringe chart to become a star for the Packers happened in 2007. Green Bay was in the middle of what would be a NFC title game appearance, Brett Favre was behind center and Ryan Grant became the “man.” Fast forward three seasons later and James Starks has a chance to emulate that same success. After arriving off the PUP list to star in last week’s win against the 49ers, Starks pumped in 73 yards on 18 carries, looking every bit like the next strong workhorse in Green Bay and looking every bit like the strong candidate to replace this guy coming up…
Out: Brandon Jackson
The criticism Brandon Jackson has received this season has been largely unfair. He never asked to be thrust into the role of a starter so his underwhelming stint in the spotlight should be forgiven. The diminutive scatback has averaged a paltry 3.9 yards per carry this season but has remained effective in the passing game. Jackson may be on the outs as a feature back in the Green Bay scheme but a duo of himself and Starks could put the spark back in the Packers’ pound attack.
