It doesn’t look like NFL owners will make any rule changes for overtime in the regular season.
As team owners converge in Dallas for the annual NFL Spring Meeting there is a “growing sense” that they will not hold a vote to implement any changes according to Jason La Canfora of NFL.com.
Apparently there isn’t enough interest among the owners in implementing the same rule changes they made to the postseason back in March.
SI’s Peter King (via PFT) believes that the non-vote decision is three-fold. Roger Goodell may not want to further rock the boats of players still upset about the postseason rule changes.
Second, there may not even be enough votes to pass the measure.
Lastly, the TV networks “aren’t enchanted with the potential delays” of longer overtime games.
