Donald Driver signed a two-year contract with the Green Bay Packers Friday afternoon that will keep him with the team through the 2012 season.
Driver previously stated that he wants to play until he’s 40. At the end of the extension he will be 38, which may be good enough for him.
“Now I’m going to retire as a Packer,” Driver told reporters after signing the extension with his family present. “That’s something I’ve dreamed of for a long time. It’s here now … When it’s all said and done and I’m doing playing I’m going to be wearing green and gold.”
Despite his advanced age for an NFL player, the long-tenured wide receiver proved he can still get it done last season.
Driver started all 16 games for Green Bay last season, hauling in 70 passes for 1,061 yards and six touchdowns.
Financial terms of the extension were not disclosed, but he was scheduled to earn a total of $6.8 million this season.
