The Dolphins practice on Tuesday turned into a treasure hunt after DE Kendall Langford lost a diamond earring he forgot to remove when getting dressed.
At least nine team members crawled across the field for an hour after practice, according to ESPN.com, scouring the grass for the 2.5 carat diamond.
“I’ve got a great group of guys out here helping me — family-type guys,” Langford said.
Others used combs and rakes to search between the Dolphins’ two practice fields for the gem. While no official figures surrounding he diamond’s worth surfaced, estimates have the price set around $50,000. Once the grounds crew started to manicure the field, the search team called it quits for the day.
“He’s a teammate. That’s what you do,” DE Ryan Baker said. “It’s a fat diamond. It’s a shame.”
Langford was drafted by Miami in the third-round of the 2008 Draft. He emerged as a starter in the team’s 3-4 scheme partway through his rookie season, recording 74 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in two years with the Dolphins.
