Jason Ferguson called it a career after 13 seasons on Thursday.

Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Jason Ferguson announced his retirement from the NFL after 13 seasons on Thursday.

Ferguson’s career also included stops with the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys.

It was with the Jets that Ferguson first established a name for himself, spending eight seasons in the Big Apple where he started 83 games.

““He had a great career in the league and was professional in everything he did,” Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said. “I appreciate all he did for the Dolphins in his two years in Miami, and his leadership will be missed.”

Ferguson came to the Dolphins by way of a trade with the Dallas Cowboys in 2008.

He was the Jets’ seventh-round selection (No. 229 overall) in 1997 out of Georgia Tech.

“You get what you put into this game,” Ferguson said in a Dolphins press release. “I would like to thank my family, the fans and the organizations that I have been a part of for their continued support throughout my career, it’s been an absolute blessing to play this long. I have built a lot of relationships, you develop an extended family playing this game; I would like to thank that extended family, the teammates, the coaches, the support staffs that have all played a part of a great ride.”
