Deuce McAllister’s return to the NFL was short and sweet.
McAllister un-retired for the Saints’ Divisional Round win against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. However, with the Saints needing his roster spot for a wide receiver after Robert Meacham’s injury, McAllister is set to announce his retirement.
The 31-year old running back was never really a candidiate to actually suit up for the team. According to Saints Head Coach Sean Payton, McAllister was 28 pounds over his playing weight.
McAllister led the Saints onto the field prior to last week’s Divisional Round win and will do so once again before Sunday’s big NFC Championship match-up against Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.
McAllister was drafted by the Saints in the 1st round of the ’01 NFL Draft after spending his college years at Ole Miss. He holds the Saints records for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
