Agents for Joshua Cribbs are threatening that he will never play for the Cleveland Browns again after the team low balled the wide receiver with their latest contract offer. Cribbs, himself, is doubting that he will return in 2010.

The Browns latest offer was for $1.4 million annually, barely more than the $1 million he is earning currently according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

“They need to treat him fairly or he’ll never play for the Browns again,” Cribbs’ agent Peter Schaffer said Wednesday. “He will demand a trade and he will walk out of there and they won’t see him for the off-season — they won’t see him ever again.”

His public statement shouldn’t catch the Browns off-guard as he gave the Browns until the end of Wednesday to respond to their calls before informing the press of the negotiation details.

“1.4 million dollars per year for a player of Josh’s caliber and character is not only insulting it is unjustifiable under any objective criteria,” Schaffer wrote in an email to the Browns organization that he also sent to the press. “Further given the three years of history of this matter and the incredibly strong and powerful grassroots support for Josh, we will see how this turns out.”

The Browns offer, when compared to the contracts of other players in the NFL who hold similar positions, is low… really low.

Deven Hester of the Chicago Bears is currently earning $5.45 million.

Cribbs himself doesn’t believe that he will be with the Browns organization next season.

“Thanks everyone, I love playing for the Browns (and) put my all in to it, but it doesn’t look good (for) me at this point on returning,” the Pro Bowl bound player wrote on Twitter.

“I don’t believe I made the to do list for the team in 2010,” he added later.

Cribbs has three years left on his current six-year contract that runs through 2012.
