According to Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas, Jerry Jones has expressed interest in signing Miles Austin to a lucrative long-term contract.
When asked by reporters whether or not he was going to sign the restricted free agent to a long term deal, Jones responded with, “Yes. That’s all I’m going to say, but the answer is yes.”
The 4th year wide receiver was one of the NFL’s biggest break-out performers of 2009, leading the NFC in receiving yards with 1,320 yards and earning his 1st pro bowl birth.
Possibly the deciding factor for Jones was that Austin developed a good rapport with another Cowboy who recently signed a long-term deal, Tony Romo. Something Romo did not have with another wide receiver who shall remain nameless (hint – he’s the high priced WR who didn’t do $!*# in Buffalo this year).
Fantasy Analysis: Miles Austin had a great year for owners. In all, Austin had 81 catches for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns. He broke on to the scene in week 5 with a remarkable 10/250/2 and never looked back. Both Austin and Romo are in the prime of their careers . Look for them both to continue the elite play in 2010. One of the 1st writers I’ve seen rank Austin as high as I would is Chris Wesselling of Rotoworld.com, placing him at #6 in his latest WR DynastyRanks article.
