*UPDATED* Could 49ers Be Interested in Matt Leinart?

Matt Leinart

Mike Singletary isn't 100 percent sold on his QB situation. Could Leinart be in the mix?

San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary isn’t 100 percent comfortable with backup quarterback David Carr yet, but feels as though he could be in the future.

The same cannot be said for third-string quarterback Nate Davis, whom Singletary roasted last week after taking exception to his work ethic according to a PFT post.

As such, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to wonder if the 49ers have at least expressed interest in acquiring Matt Leinart from the Arizona Cardinals.

The Oakland Raiders were initially reported to have interest in acquiring Leinart, but have since blasted ESPN’s Adam Schefter for that rumor and are steadfast in their denial. Besides, the other Bay Area team makes more sense for the former USC quarterback.

Of course there is absolutely no fact to back this up. It’s purely an observation that could make sense if the Cardinals are willing to deal within their division.

The Raiders are already loaded at quarterback with Jason Campbell, Bruce Gradkowski and Kyle Boller. Not to mention Colt Brennan is still on the roster for the next few days.
