There are conflicting reports as to whether the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still trying to land Bill Cowher as their head coach next season.
Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reported that the Bucs were ready to offer Cowher a $5 million to $6 million annual contract, but he wanted more.
The former Steelers coach also had concerns over player payroll.
Another report, this one by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, says that the Bucs are insistent that they are not going after Cowher.
A high-ranking official within the organization said that reports of a coaching change were “categorically false.”
The source further added that they had not reached out to Cowher and have no plans to do so.
All of the speculation comes less than 48 hours after the team announced that Raheem Morris will return as head coach next season.
