The Indianapolis Colts have long been friendly toward undrafted free agents. Jim Caldwell made sure that his players knew that the coaching staff will be watching their performance carefully during tonight’s final pre-season game. As proof of the fact that making crucial plays late in the pre-season can really make a difference, Polian present the team with videos of previous players who beat the odds.“We went through a couple of scenarios and showed a few film clips of guys that had gotten to the last couple games of the preseason that made everyone stand up and take notice,” Caldwell said, “We worked our way back through the years, through the archives, and just touched on a few guys.”
Long snapper Justin Snow is going into his eleventh season with the club, but he was undrafted in 2000, as was running back Dominic Rhodes a year later. Linebacker Gary Brackett, kick returner Brad Pyatt and receiver Aaron Moorehead all made the team in 2003. Undrafted safties Melvin Bullitt and Jamie Silva made the cut in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
Bullit remember well what it was like to be in the position that many of his teammates are in now.
“You just play it like it’s your last. That game to a lot of guys is almost like the Super Bowl” Bullit said.
