Colts Could Use Freeney On 3rd Downs at Super Bowl

Dwight Freeney

The odds that Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney will play in Sunday’s Super Bowl are improving.

Freeney told reporters that the pain in his ankle was subsiding and that it gets a little better every day according to Gregg Rosenthal of PFT.

To strengthen the ankle, Freeney has been walking in the sand along the beaches of Miami. Not a bad gig for rehab if you ask me.

There are rumblings that the Colts will use him in third down and obvious passing situations, while leaving much of the heavy lifting to his backup Raheem Brock on first and second downs.

It was his teammate Robert Mathis that let Indianapolis’ game plan slip on Tuesday.
