Cleveland Browns restricted free agent linebacker Matt Roth has demanded a trade.
Roth, who is represented by Drew Rosenhaus, was a waiver wire pick up from the Miami Dolphins in the tenth week of the 2009 season. Roth performed well, with four sacks in the final six games.
Once free agency commenced the Browns put a second round tender on Roth, meaning that any team who signed him would have to compensate the Browns with a second round pick, The financial amount of the tender is $1.809 million.
Cleveland GM Tom Heckert says that the Browns will not trade Roth, despite his demands.
If Roth does not sign a contract, he can not be traded, and if not signed by the tenth game of the regular season he would be ineligible to play for the rest of the year.
As for the Browns, they are deep at linebacker, and veteran David Bowens or newly signed Scott Fujita can both play outside linebacker. The Browns also have youngster Marcus Benard in reserve.
There are two available veteran free agent linebackers, who might fit the Browns defensive scheme in Adalius Thomas of New England and Antwan Barnes of Baltimore.
Roth is a definite talent, but there were rumors that he had trouble with Dolphins management last year and he seems to be on a similar track in Cleveland.
