Clay Matthews to Miss at Least Two Weeks

Clay Matthews sidelined for two weeks with hamstring injury

Clay Matthews, the second-year linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, will miss at least two weeks because of a hamstring injury during Saturday’s scrimmage, reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. It is the same hamstring that caused problems for Matthews during the 2009 off-season.

If Matthews remains  sidelined for just two weeks, he would return in time for the third exhibition game of the season against the Indianapolis Colts.  However, it is not clear whether or not the coaching staff or medical team would allow him to play with only one practice in pads on the schedule.

“Last year I tried to push it a little bit and that set me back,” Matthews said. “This year we’re going to be smart, especially with four or five weeks until the season starts. No doubt I’ll be ready. It’s just frustrating,” said Matthews in the Journal-Sentinel interview.

Clay Matthews wasn’t the only Packer injured during the 39-snap scrimmage.  Four other players on the roster also suffered varying degrees of injury.
