According to Adam Teicher of The Kansas City Star, the Chiefs signed third-year running back Jamaal Charles to a five-year contract extension worth a reported $32.5 million, including $13 million in guaranteed money.
Charles is the second Chiefs player this season to sign an extension in the final year of his contract. Early last month, Kansas City linebacker Derrick Johnson agreed to a five-year extension worth up to $35 million.
Charles went over 1,000 yards in the Chiefs’ win over Seattle two weeks ago, and is third in the league with 1,137 yards rushing. His 6.2-yards-per-carry average is the best in the league for running backs with at least 75 carries.
Charles also has 34 receptions, ranking him third among Chiefs receivers, and one touchdown reception.
