Heading into the free agency period the Chicago Bears made it clear that they were going to be aggressive. Without a first or second-round draft pick they didn’t have a choice.

Chicago came out swinging and took the lead in the Julius Peppers sweepstakes, essentially crushing the hopes any other team had of landing the most sought after free agent of the year.

Now, the Bears have landed San Diego Chargers free agent tight end Brandon Manumaleuna.

Pending the results of a physical, Manumaleuna will sign a five-year contract with the team according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

“I played for Mike Martz and Lovie Smith was the defensive coordinator. It was a great situation,” Manumaleuna told reporters as he arrived at O’Hare airport Friday morning. “This team has a chance to be real successful.”
