Chargers Release Veteran RB Tomlinson

The San Diego Chargers released long-time running back LaDainian Tomlinson on Monday.

The decision was expected by most but still caused shock to many Chargers’ fans who have become accustomed to seeing #21 in the backfield.

Restricted free agent Darren Sproles is the likely candidate to see an uptick in carries next season. However, FootballNewsNow fully expects San Diego to address the running back position as early as the 1st round in April’s draft. C.J. Spiller and Ryan Matthews are two names that have been rumored to be of interest to the Chargers.

Tomlinson, a sure-fire Hall of Fame player, was drafted 5th overall by the Chargers in the 2001 NFL Draft.
