Chargers' linebacker Shawne Merriman returned to practice, but is unlikely to start in San Diego's preseason opener
San Diego Chargers’ linebacker and former Pro Bowler Shawne Merriman returned to the practice field today for the first time since sustaining an injury to his Achilles tendon, according to Chris Jenkins of the San Diego Union-Tribue.
Merriman hasn’t practiced since August 17, just his third practice after returning from a holdout in which he demanded that the Chargers guarantee his job security via a no-trade clause.
San Diego openly shopped the veteran linebacker during April’s draft, a fact that angered Merriman, who believes that he is the type of player a team can “build a defense around.”
Merriman isn’t expected to play Monday night vs. the Chiefs.
