Carolina Panthers Cut Jake Delhomme After Dismal Season

Jake Delhomme

The Carolina Panthers are expected to cut quarterback Jake Delhomme according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. The cut could come as early as Friday.

Delhomme certainly doesn’t have as momentum heading into the off-season, having a career-low passer rating of 59.4 in 2009.

He would serve as a fine backup quarterback for a number of teams around the league. However, the 35-year-old’s days as a starter could be over in the NFL.

On Wednesday the team placed the highest possible tender on backup QB Matt Moore.

It looks like the Moore era has begun in Carolina.

UPDATE: The Panthers are still on the hook for a lot of guaranteed money to Delhomme. ESPN is reporting that the team will still have to pay him $12.7 million.
